Sunday September 19th, at the Legislative Buildings, we're gathering to stand up for the Peace River Valley.   I'll be singing on this historic day, at around 9:30 am, and the rally will begin at 10:00 am.  Please come and support this event, its invaluable to our beautiful province's future.

A lot of things have happened, a lot of checkpoints, messages, encouragements, friendships, hugs, kisses, and great days with new friends and musicians. I'll write all about it when I get home, right now, I'm still out... and haven't even had time to chill-  but just know that I'm doin' awesome, and having the raddest time.

love, Vince

Who is leading the pack?

If there was ever a time where we, as a human race or species, need rebirth…I believe its now.

What is music?

What is it about the sounds of music that we are so drawn to?  It’s a spiritual language, a universal emotional connection that we all share with music; and it has the ultimate power to unite us.

I know what you’re thinking…”Oh here we go…rock n’ roll can save the world….how cheese…” But what if the messages in songs reminded us who we are?  What if music was to awaken the masses of people who have been lulled to sleep by the sound of safety and routine, by the drone of money making, by the image of the America dream, Wal-Mart and soft-serve iced cream on a Sunday?

What if music called us all back to the wild, like the ghostly howl of a lone wolf in the night calls for the pack miles and miles away; signaling a kill and uniting the clan in one long rising and falling tone?

Why have we forgotten our instincts? We are the only species that seems to have become disconnected with the very earth we come from, and return to.  By definition, I would suggest that our impact, and behavior, rivals that of locusts.  We devour our surroundings like a plague, thinking nothing of the future and annihilate entire eco-systems as if we didn’t need them.

The fact is that we are part of our environment; we are connected in the very genetic code that binds all things on this planet.  It seems obvious, but we belong here like fish belong in the sea, and trees in the forests… It seems redundant to state it, but we are the Universe. I am the ocean, the mountains, the sky, the air… Our total bodyweight is 60% water… WATER! What do we do with our pure, and sacred water?  Recently… we, as a human species dumped an astronomical 4.9 million barrels, or 205.8 million gallons into the Gulf of Mexico.  Sadly, this is one incident amongst many, many others.  Our very way of life, the one most encouraged by our society, is slowly and effectively killing the very life source and energy that has sustained us so graciously for thousands of years.

What is going on??? Who is at the head of our species? Who is leading our pack in this direction and allowing this absolute tragedy to continue??   I know where to find the buffoons, liars, and thieves; but where are the leaders of our time?

The Hopi Indians believe that we are very close to a time of renewal.  They were told that they would see America come and go.  In a sense, America is dying from within, because they’ve forgotten the instructions of how to live on earth.

Before the sun sets on our time, I hope that the people who are able to hear, will hear the call, and become awake.  Their eyes will be opened, they will chose to walk the path of the Earth, and they’ll walk in the steps of the Spirit.

I will sing of all these things, and I hope it inspires the search for the deep, the truth, and the path that was once the way of life, before we came to this place.

I woke up this morning and went down to the lake just after 7 am.   A low lying fog looked as though it was running across the perfect  reflection of the mountains in the still water; moving away from where I was standing, towards the place where the sun was rising.  It was one of those silently still mornings where you can feel the quiet energy in the air, kind of  like the pause before you drop into a massive barrell on a big day...

That kind of stillness is always a sign for me of good things to come...Today was full of smiles, hugs, and introductions...  For me, the highlights of the last couple days we're definitely the chance meetings and collaborations that came out of nowhere, as if scripted in the fabric of the days.  Its not often that I get to create music with others, and I'm more than stoked about another new song that happened out of thin air right before sundown tonight (Day 3)

I'll tell you all about it... or better yet, maybe I'll have to post it up here once its done...

Keep smiling-

Vince.

Just got to Princeton today for the Peak Performance Project... what a place were in right now.  They've really set us up... Im writing this from a room with nine iMacs, all of which are loaded with Logic, and audio interfaces so we can demo our little hearts out.

Earlier this evening, I managed to find a skateboard, and I tried out the vert ramp.  I'm pretty sure that I've forgotten everything I learned in highschool, and I basically can't skate anymore... so I decided to go back to my room and grab a guitar.

A few minutes later, I was jamming with Christopher Arruda, Jeff Kalesnikof, Tyson Yerex,  and Lewis.  We smashed out an arrangement and I headed up to the demo lounge to lay down bed tracks.  So... all in all... day 1 is going pretty good!

Peace kids.

Alright, so summer is here, and I wanted to give you all new music to adventure to.  Go to www.fireandsun.com  and you'll get linked up to a new set of songs I've just finished recording in my house.   This music comes to me freely, and I'll gladly pass it on to you in the same way.  I'm trying to find a way to set up a free download area ... in the meantime you'll have to listen on myspace... Hope you're all having a most wonderful experience.

I just finished a new song and its up on myspace!  I recorded it over an evening and a morning at my house, its definitely going on the setlist for the show Saturday night at Sugar. There are still maybe a few straggling tickets left, but I hear they are very...very few at the moment. I'm out, have a good night everyone!

woooah....ok backlog... I entered into the Peak Performance Project put on by Music BC and 100.5 The Peak, and out of almost five hundred entries, I made the top 20- so I'm stoked!  We were invited to Vancouver for the official orientation and got to meet everyone involved... There was a performance coach there who did a workshop with us, and it was so rad.  We also found out a ton more about the bootcamp we have to attend at the end of August...and it looks like a kick ass time.  Jeff from Acres of Lions- another top 20 Artist- are planning on doubling up the 2000ft Zipline in Froto and Sam outfits or superheroes.  Apparently, there's a BMX ramp that you can jump off of into the lake...I'm pretty much stoked on that!

Well what a crazy awesome weekend its been...I started out with a sail across to Sydney Island with my bud Dousie and Christian. It turned into a trip to Sombrio beach, which looked like a city of tents. I found a spot to tent and hang up my hammock, made some friends and joined a fire where we jammed late into the night.  It was an awesome time man, I'm really glad I went up there. Anyway, I have a few more shows lined up throughout the summer so if you're kickin around the island come and hang.

Tonight's the last show in Nanaimo. I've skipped out on writing since Alberta, but basically, its been fun. Errington and Tofino with Jon & Roy were off the hook, I loved both shows. There was a crew of people who came all the way over from Vancouver to see me play at The Legion in Tofino, I was so stoked to have them there!  I'll be heading up the island pretty quick, see you out there.
